About this Event
The Fall Festival & Chili Cook-Off, our annual fall fundraiser, has become a harvest tradition for the whole family! It has become a highlight in the North Star community as we join together for a charity auction and to determine the finest of chili gourmets. The whole family is welcome at this event!
Report from the 2012 Fall Festival & Chili Cook-Off
The annual North Star Chili Cook-off was an undoubted success this year, accomplishing its two-fold purpose to strengthen community and to raise funds. North Star members and their families met together at Murray Park on September 1st, some individuals traveling cross-country to participate. Although the weather threatened to disrupt the event, every activity progressed without a problem.
As members arrived, they were asked to make donations: 10 dollars a person, or 25 dollars a family. Individuals also brought chili to share and items to be included in the charity auction. As people gathered, socialized, and ate together, it became apparent how important this event has become to so many. The atmosphere was definitely one of love and support.
Members made bids for donated items such as artwork, jewelry and books. There was also a live auction for valuable services and gifts, including weekend getaways, catered dinners, and gourmet cakes. Also, a generous offer was announced. For every “like” on the Ty Mansfield Facebook page, Kerry promised to donate $10 to North Star. This kind gesture is evidence of how committed individuals are to the mission of North Star.
As the evening progressed, meaningful conversations continued while brave individuals sang Karaoke on stage. As the event eventually came to an end, it was evident that this activity strengthened individuals, families, and the North Star community.
We are already looking forward to the Chili cook-off next year!
