Email Discussion Groups


North Star sponsors a variety of discussion groups intended to provide a moderated forum in which you can post and read messages of support, compassion, and encouragement, as well as individual experiences of doubt, fear, hope, and joy.

As interest, need, and activity level evolve, these groups are subject to change. If there is a particular demographic for which you feel a group would be beneficial, please let us know. If there is sufficient interest, we will consider creating such a group.

If you would like to join more than one group – and are eligible according to the demographic – each group must be joined separately.

 

Main Discussion Groups

Select any of the following groups to read the rules and expectations, and request to join.

Youth

This group is for youth, ages 13-18 (male and female).

Men

This group is for men who experience homosexual attraction, as well as men who have never experienced homosexual attraction whose sole motivation is to give support and increase their own understanding.

Women

This group is for women who experience homosexual attraction, as well as women who have never experienced homosexual attraction whose sole motivation is to give support and increase their own understanding.

Spouses

This group is for wives of men and husbands of women who were formerly homosexually oriented, those who currently experience homosexual attraction, or those who have embraced their homosexuality. Currently married and prospective spouses are welcome.

Transgender, Intersex & Gender Identity

This group is for men and women who have feelings of dissonance between their physical gender and their internal sense of gender identity, and intersex individuals, as well as those whose sole motivation is to give support and increase their own understanding.

Transgender/Intersex/Gender Identity Spouses

This group is for men and women who are married to individuals who have feelings of dissonance between their physical gender and their internal sense of gender identity, and intersex individuals.

Family & Friends

This group is for parents, siblings, spouses, friends, or local Church leaders to provide an open and supportive forum to encourage, strengthen, and educate one another, and to learn how to best encourage, strengthen, build up, and support our same-sex attracted loved ones.

Specialty Groups

The following groups offer special focus on interests or concerns that may not be addressed in the general groups. These groups were formed based on level of interest and are subject to change as interest, need, and activity level evolve.

Following this list are additional groups North Star is considering forming, given sufficient interest. If there is a particular demographic for which you feel a group would be beneficial, please let us know. Given sufficient interest and support, we will gladly consider creating such a group.

Young Adults

This group is for young adult men and women (ages 18-30), married or single.

Prospective Missionaries

This group is for young men (ages 16-25) and young women (ages 17 and up) who are preparing to serve full-time missions, or for other missionary or service opportunities, as well as recently returned missionaries whose sole motivation is to provide support.

Married Men

This group is for men who are in heterosexual marriages as well as those who are engaged to be married or who are in serious relationships and would like to gain insight and support as they consider the possibility of marriage.

Married Women

This group is for women who are in heterosexual marriages as well as those who are engaged to be married or who are in serious relationships and would like to gain insight and support as they consider the possibility of marriage.

HIV/AIDS Support

This groups is for men and women with HIV/AIDS, those with loved ones who have HIV/AIDS, and those who would like to provide support for individuals and families dealing with HIV/AIDS.

Couples

This group is for married couples to join together. While other groups for married individuals are segregated, this group is for both partners to engage in open discussion with other couples. Those who are engaged to be married are also welcome.

Sexual Addiction Recovery, Men

This group is for men who struggle with sexual addiction, including to pornography and/or masturbation, as well as those who have experienced significant recovery and would like to offer support.

Sexual Abuse Survivors, Men

This group is for men who have been sexually abused in any way, and want to work on healing the effects of that abuse in their lives, as well as those who have experienced significant recovery and would like to offer support.

Divorced Spouses

This group is for individuals formerly in a relationship with an SSA spouse, whether divorced or divorcing. Individuals in this situation may benefit from support in faithfully dealing with the issues the former spouse will continue to present in their relationships to loved ones, children, and the Church.

Under Consideration by North Star

The following are groups North Star is considering forming, given sufficient interest. If there is a particular demographic for which you feel a group would be beneficial, whether listed below or not, please let us know. Given sufficient interest and support, we will gladly consider creating such a group.

Groups Sponsored by Other Organizations

The following are groups sponsored by other individuals or organizations whose mission and goals we have reason to believe are in general harmony with the mission of North Star and the values and standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Clean-LDS

For Latter-day Saint men and women (both same-sex and opposite-sex attracted) who struggle with an addiction to or abuse of pornography. Additional groups include “Clean-Support,” for LDS men and women married to people who struggle with an addiction to or abuse of pornography, and “Clean-Marriage,” for married Latter-day Saints who either struggle with pornography or are married to someone who does.

Ruth and Esther

For Latter-day Saint women affected by sexual abuse, including friends and family members. Though geared toward LDS women, women of all faiths who have been affected by sexual abuse are welcome.

Latter-day Saint Recovery Support Forums

Includes forums for those who struggle with sexual addictions, spouses of those who struggle with sexual addictions, those who struggle with sexual addictions and body image issues, those who struggle with same-sex attraction, those who struggle with sexual addictions, spouses of those who struggle with sexual addictions, those who struggle with sexual addictions and body image issues, and those who struggle with same-sex attraction

People Can Change

For men of all faiths – or no faith – who desire to resolve unwanted same-sex attractions, as well as heterosexual men whose your sole motivation is to give support and increase their own understanding, compassion, and sense of brotherhood. Includes additional group for spouses.

Evergreen Español

Para los hombres y mujeres Santos de los Ultimos Dias de habla hispana, quienes experimentan atraccion del mismo sexo y desean vivir acorde con las doctrinas y enseñanzas de la Iglesia.

(For Spanish-speaking Latter-day Saint men and women who experience same-sex attraction and want to live in accordance with the doctrines and teachings of the Church.)
