Spouses :: Community and Resources
We support the Church's doctrine that "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children." Unfortunately, some circumstances make family life particularly challenging. Among them is the scenario where one or both partners in the marriage experience same-gender attraction. Whether it is appropriate to begin or continue such a marriage is a profoundly important decision, but there is a right answer for each individual that God knows. However, generalizations and pat answers are seldom helpful.
Although some spouses are aware that their husband or wife experiences attraction to the same gender, many do not learn about the issue until they are already married. If that has been your experience, please understand that this may not be a result of conscious deceit, but a result of the difficulty many people have of achieving sufficient personal awareness when dealing with attractions they didn't choose and probably don't want. One way to view such a development is as a beautiful opportunity to work through the relevant issues together. You may find your marriage commitments deepened and strengthened by the manner in which you deal with this issue.
You will find advice from those of varied dispositions on this topic. As you seek additional helpful information and resources, be careful to choose those you can trust, since different sources may disagree on crucial points that could influence the entire course of your life, your spouse's life, and your children.
As individuals who believe in and are trying to live according to the principles and standards of the Church, we've tried to assemble a variety of resources that will help you to move forward in the gospel in a way that will be spiritually, emotionally, and socially enriching. Since you're here, we assume you are trying to live the gospel too, and we're glad. Welcome!
