GIVE BACK

Many people who visit North Star find themselves wondering “what can I do to help others?” If this is a question you have, thank you for wanting to contribute to the lives of other people.

Your desires to serve are appreciated and we can use your help! North Star is a peer-led community-driven organization, so the more people contributing their talents and time, the better North Star will be.

There are four basic ways to give back:

Donate

Contributing to North Star financially is a powerful service that can be used to benefit many, and each dollar goes toward education, outreach, and helping individuals and families.

It is through the real stories of real people that we can truly see how principles of the gospel of Christ intersect with same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria.

Share your story

There is power in stories. Elder Bruce R. McConkie said, “Unless our religion is a living thing that changes the lives of people in whose nostrils the breath of life is now inhaled, it has no saving power.”

While information alone is a very important tool in creating a resource for those dealing with issues related to sexuality or gender identity, it is through the real stories of real people that we can truly see how principles of the gospel of Christ fully intersect with same-sex attraction or gender indentity.

If you have a story to tell, or a perspective to offer, we are interested in hearing from you! We want to know how this issue has affected your life—as an individual, as a parent, as a spouse, etc.—and how you have found peace and hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There are several different ways you can share your personal experience or perspective—again, whether as someone who experiences same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria, or as a spouse, parent, child, family member, friend, or Church leader. The following are just three possible ways:

Provide support

For those who may be struggling in their lives, it can be helpful and even critical to hear the experiences and perspectives of those who have found answers or experienced resolution that has helped them to come to a place of peace and hope. The difficulty, however, is that those who are at peace in their lives tend to blend in and not participate in support communities—which is understandable because they’re not in need of that kind of support!

A most helpful way to get involved and “give back” is to jump in and interact with the community, sharing support and insights in whatever ways you feel comfortable. North Star sponsors a variety of private Facebook Groups, Email Groups, and we have an interactive blog.

Read. Reply. Comment. Interact. Share. Connect.

Volunteer

North Star is a grass-roots, peer-led, community-driven effort with a mission to empower men and women who experience same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria, as well as their friends, spouses, or other family members, to more authentically and healthily live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

North Star is successful because of the efforts of many individuals who contribute their time, talents, and hearts to various aspects of its mission. If you’re interested in getting more involved in helping us to live out our mission on an organizational level, please join our volunteer team! Read on to find out how.

How You Can Help!

A number of volunteer opportunities are open to believing and committed Latter-day Saints who sustain the doctrines and teachings of the Church, and who feel a sense of mission around strengthening and educating members of the Church on issues related to sexuality and gender identity.

Because of the breadth of our audience, we need men, women, parents, spouses, family members, friends, and interested priesthood and auxiliary leaders who are willing to share their perspectives, vision, and talents with us as we seek to jointly create a safe, loving, and integrated place in the Church for individuals and families dealing with these issues.

There are several areas in which we could use additional help. A few examples of these areas include:

Fundrasing

Graphic and Product Design

j

Writing and editing web content

Resource development
